Enjoy a very old tradition in a Tyrolean city close to Innsbruck: "Tuiflshow" (Krampusumzug) in Zirl.
Every year in the villages in Tyrol the traditional "Nikolaus- and Krampusumzüge" take place in the beginning of advent. What does this mean?
Krampus is a mythical creature from the Alps. According to the legend, Krampus accompanies St. Nicholas during the Christmas season, warning and punishing bad children, while St. Nicholas gives away gifts to the well-behaved and good children.
In the Alpine regions, Krampus is represented by a demon-like creature. Traditionally, young men dress up as the Krampus in Austria, South Tyrol and Southern Bavaria to roam the streets frightening children (and grown-ups!) with rusty chains and bells.

This event is very special and you definitely shouldn’t miss it!

The event will take place on Thursday, 5th of December. We will meet at 16h00 at the train station in Innsbruck (meeting point: inside the train station, downstairs in front of the ticket machines). We’ll buy our tickets there and then we will take the train to Zirl (which is located only a few kilometres from Innsbruck).
In Zirl you can stroll through the old town and visit the local advent market. Enjoy the Glühwein, the Christmas atmosphere, the regional delicacies offered at the market.
The "Krampusumzug" will start at 17h30 and will last approximately one hour. Afterwards you can decide, when you want to return to Innsbruck (we will arrive home between 21h00 and midnight).
